Angie's lemons

Countless blessings

Dane PoseyEverything Pose Knows Cabo

Of all the places in the world to be in March of 2020, Baja California Sur has to be at the top of the list. The combination of perfect weather, flowering trees, tasty waves, and an abundance of fruits and vegetables make Baja ideal.

When life hands you Yuzu lemons, fill a bathtub with them and bathe like Japanese royalty.

The worldwide pandemic has forced many of us to change our daily routines and, as we found out quickly, that is not all bad. The human race was on a collision course with extinction prior to the virus and, hopefully, we all emerge from this cocoon with a new perspective on how we want to spend what little time we are afforded on this planet. After all, she will still be here long after we are gone.

So many projects and so little time. We are currently working on:

  • Transplanting the tomatoes and peppers started at home.
  • Building a support structure for the tomatoes.
  • Harvesting eggplant (STILL), lemons, sweet potatoes, jicama, cilantro, sugar cane, oregano, and guanabana.
  • Mixing adobe to reinforce the stairs.
  • Redesigning the fire pit.
  • Collecting rocks to reinforce the path.
  • Adding nitrogen to the compost pile.
  • Building an herb drying tower.

One day a week is not even close to enough time for all that needs to be done but poco a poco our paradise is becoming reality.

El Rinconcito at Mercado Organico

The BEST FOOD at the Mercado Organico

Dane PoseyCabo Events, Everything Pose Knows Cabo

My mother-in-law, Alma Angelica Orduña, is a national treasure. There is simply no debate. In addition to being one of the best cooks I have ever met, her heart knows no bounds.

Mercado Organico in San Jose del Cabo

Each Saturday at the Mercado Organico (Organic Market) in San Jose del Cabo, she and my father-in-law, Bernardo Villa, share their primary love language with the world at their booth, El Rinconcito (The little corner). There they serve the most amazing tamales, chilaquiles, and pozole. It was seven years ago that I first visited their pop-up restaurant and fell in love with their daughter, Angie. Since that time I have probably gained fifteen pounds from over-indulging her cooking but trust me, every pound has been worth it.

As the saying goes, “A los hombres se le conquista por el estómago.”

The secret is out

This past weekend they were interviewed at their booth by local internet station Radio Diferente. I still can’t believe it but they discussed some of their “secret” menu items including tortas de tamal and tortas de chilaquiles. These are sandwiches and soft bread stuffed with either tamales or chilaquiles and should be illegal they are so good. I thought that I was the only one that knew. Apparently the secret is out!

Next time you go to the Mercado Organico from 9 AM to 3 PM during high season on Saturdays do not miss the opportunity to sample their food. One bite and you will be HOOKED! I know that I was.

Please enjoy the interview. It is in Spanish because, well, we live in Mexico!
