San Jose del Cabo was founded in 1730 by a group of missionaries from the Dominican Order. Initially, it was called Misión de San José del Cabo Anuití, which translates to “Mission of Saint Joseph of Cabo Anuití”. It was established as part of the Spanish Empire’s expansion into the New World, meant to spread Christianity to native populations. The mission also served as a waypoint for travelers coming to and from Mexico City.
Modern-Day San Jose del Cabo
In modern times, San Jose del Cabo has become a popular tourist destination due to its stunning beaches and luxurious resorts.
