Few areas in Los Cabos are left still virtually untouched. This East Cape development parcel is one of them.
Las Barracas Cove | La Ribera | East Cape Development Parcel | 130,422.50 square meters (32.22 acres) 570.74 meters (1,872 feet) of linear beach frontage MLS: 18-2669
Las Barracas Cove is situated in one of the most incredible areas of Cabo Pulmo National Marine Park. This property offers 570.74 meters (1,872 feet) of linear beach frontage and covers 130,422.50 square meters (32.22 acres). A dream estate or eco-resort could be built here where every day you can enjoy what Jacques Cousteau called ‘The Worlds Largest Aquarium’ – the Sea of Cortez. The ocean frontage offers dramatic views of the shoreline rocks and reefs, and white sand beach.
The topography is varied with a dramatic hilltop and gentle sloping terrain offering a variety of impressive building sites. Cabo Pulmo is home of the largest coral reef system in the northeastern Pacific. Surf cast from the beach for Roosterfish, experience the sea turtle habitat, watch schools of rays and pods of whales and dolphins pass by your front yard. The property is a one hour drive from the international airport and 15 minutes to the Costa Las Palmas Four Seasons resort and marina.
My mother-in-law, Alma Angelica Orduña, is a national treasure. There is simply no debate. In addition to being one of the best cooks I have ever met, her heart knows no bounds.
Mercado Organico in San Jose del Cabo
Each Saturday at the Mercado Organico (Organic Market) in San Jose del Cabo, she and my father-in-law, Bernardo Villa, share their primary love language with the world at their booth, El Rinconcito (The little corner). There they serve the most amazing tamales, chilaquiles, and pozole. It was seven years ago that I first visited their pop-up restaurant and fell in love with their daughter, Angie. Since that time I have probably gained fifteen pounds from over-indulging her cooking but trust me, every pound has been worth it.
As the saying goes, “A los hombres se le conquista por el estómago.”
The secret is out
This past weekend they were interviewed at their booth by local internet station Radio Diferente. I still can’t believe it but they discussed some of their “secret” menu items including tortas de tamal and tortas de chilaquiles. These are sandwiches and soft bread stuffed with either tamales or chilaquiles and should be illegal they are so good. I thought that I was the only one that knew. Apparently the secret is out!
Next time you go to the Mercado Organico from 9 AM to 3 PM during high season on Saturdays do not miss the opportunity to sample their food. One bite and you will be HOOKED! I know that I was.
Please enjoy the interview. It is in Spanish because, well, we live in Mexico!
The Cape, a Thompson Hotel hosted the Los Cabos Open of Surf, which had been traditionally held at Zippers in Costa Azul annually. The 2019 edition featured Rob Machado, Josh Kerr, Anastasia Ashley, and a slew of killer pro-surfers. The competition was dubbed the “Soft-Top Soiree” and all rode similar soft-top shortboards to remove any advantage.
With The Cape, a Thompson Hotel and The Cape Residences in the backdrop the competition was wild and sure to be a yearly occurrence. For more information on tickets for 2020 visit www.loscabosopenofsurf.com
